If you watched Episode 2 of Bryan Inc. you'll know that we ran into a few problems when we dug deeper into the basement of the Highview property. If you didn't watch, well you know what to do...

Home gyms are something that are not only practical, but can save you time and money by avoiding pricey membership fees and trips to the nearest fitness facility.  Bryan and I are in the process of creating a small home gym in our basement since we find it easiest to fit a quick workout in before the kids are awake and the morning mayhem begins!

Interior fabrics are something that I have a secret love for! As mentioned in an earlier blog, I spent many summer days during my childhood shopping the fabric stores along Queen Street in Toronto with my Mother, an avid sewer. My knowledge of fabric continued to grow when I began working with Bryan on our first House of Bryan series. I spent hours working with the team from Cocoon Furnishings to find the perfect twill or velvet to recover our sofa. I instantly knew that I would feel right at home in the racks of fabric that lined their showroom. Over the years, I have continued to look at fabric as a great way to minimize the waste of...

So as most of you know, I have returned back to school, just as our kids are doing in the next couple of weeks. I was so excited to get started and took the plunge this month with the first part of the first unit.

Sometimes I look into my kids closets and see what looks like a lot of clothes, but it’s truly a collection of rips, stains, too big, too small, too cold to wear, too hot to wear… and so on.

One thing that I have learned, which has helped simplify life, is to stay current with organizing my kids’ closets. I love looking inside the kids’ closets and knowing that the clothes I see are the ones that are available to be worn or packed for a trip at that very moment!

Once a month, I will be answering your questions about various topics. To start things off, we are concentrating on the design and decor of cottages! Thank you for your questions, they were all interesting, but I could only pick a handful to answer. I hope they give you a little more insight into how I see the wonderful world of cottages from a design perspective.

As many of you know, design has always been a passion of mine, but I have never studied interior design professionally. Rather, like many of my colleagues, my love for design has grown immensely from the ability to work alongside, and be mentored by, such amazing designers as Tommy Smythe and Trish Johnston. My educational background includes degrees in English, Political Science and a post graduate degree in International Business. But like many, my career has continued to evolve over the past 15 years as Bryan and I have attempted to navigate the process of building and designing custom homes together. I have developed a working...

We’ve had many years of glossy strong colours when it comes to interior paint. But lately I have found myself falling in love with all things soft and subtle. From the clean and simple look reflected through tone-on-tone textiles, to the more minimalistic view that Bryan and I are trying to embrace in our own lives, I seem to have found a renewed love of the softer, milkier shades of grey and blue.

For the past few years, Bryan and I have tried to spend a few weeks of each summer up North, sitting on the dock and enjoying the peace and quiet of cottage country. But for many, they prefer the convenience and practicality of their own backyard. Personally, I love both, but I definitely understand the pains and struggles of the long commutes and bumper to bumper traffic to the cottage. Sometimes after a long week at work, there is nothing I love more than sitting down and relaxing with Bryan and the kids in our backyard, enjoying some good food and drink.

Growing up I always had a love for fashion, whether it’s shoes, handbags or dresses, my closet is constantly transforming with trends I am passionate about. I believe that if you design your home the way you style your closet, then you are sure to create a home that reflects your sense of self. I love to keep my closet organized and easy to navigate since life can get a bit hectic between helping run the Baeumler office, filming, and of course having fun with Bryan and the kids! A design trend that I find helps maintain balance and simplicity within my home are all white rooms.
